In late 2018, in a tiny home kitchen in the heart of Northwest London, the Spicy Rye's story began. Equipped only with an improbably large stock pot and bags of fresh ingredients from our allotment (our American friends would know it as a community garden), we set to work. Out of that huge stock pot came not only the first of many incredible hot sauce recipes, but the pride, vision, and quality that would create our brand: Spicy Rye's.
As we mixed, measured, poured, and bottled, one thing bothered us: almost all the commercially-available sauces lining supermarket shelves were full of junk. The more “filler” ingredients like xanthan gum and modified maize starch these sauces contain (and they contain a lot!), the less room there is for flavour and value. Like watered-down soup, these mass-produced sauces are technically edible, but lack the bite, taste, and fresh ingredients we work so hard to put into every bottle of sauce.
We vowed back then to keep those junk ingredients well clear of our stock pots, and we couldn’t be prouder of the fresh, colourful, and flavourful results that you can see - and taste! - in every bottle of Spicy Rye's products today. While incredibly high product demand has driven us to source beyond our humble London allotment in recent months, rest assured that the same high quality, organic produce goes into every bottle even now. Once you taste one of our sauces, you’ll know that for sure!
